Palm type devices are becoming a popular way not only to organize your life, but to cut down on all of the medical references you have to carry around with you as a medical student on the wards. Check out these links to some comparisons between various models of handheld devices.

May 14, 2003 PDA Workshop Presentation - Right-click and select "save as" to save the file to your hard drive

Below are links to current comparisons of many different handheld devices utilizing the Palm, PocketPC, and other operating systems.

PalmOS-based Devices - made by Palm, Sony, Handspring and other companies.

Palm's Comparison of their own PalmOS Models - Good info, but note the bias inherent in the comparison. Also note the top links to comparisons of the tungsten, ipaq (pocketpc), sony clie, and other palm devices. Also check out CNET's Comparison of PalmOS-based Palm Devices for an excellent non-biased review/comparison of current palm hardware.

A Comparison of Sony's PalmOS-based Clie - Sony's page for information on various Clie models that run the Palm operating system. Again, be aware the inherent bias of the comparison. After looking at Sony's site, look at CNET's Comparison of PalmOS-based Sony Devices for an excellent non-biased review/comparison of current sony hardware.

PocketPC-based Devices - made by HP, Dell, Toshiba and other companies.

Microsoft's Comparison of PocketPC Hardware - The other side of the tracks. A comparison of devices running the PocketPC operating system. Again, look at CNET's Comparison of Dell, HP, or Toshiba PocketPC-based Devices for an excellent non-biased review/comparison of current PocketPC hardware. Finally, look at PDA Buyers Guide for PocketPC 2003 devices for the latest in reviews and comparison between PPC devices.

Additional Information - additional resources for making a decision.

Jim's Palm Pages - a wonderful guide to buying a palm OS device from an ER doc who knows his stuff.

Dalhousie Medical School Palm Recommendations - a thorough guide to buying a palm OS device for medical school. Updated recently for fall 2003.

PDA Buyer's Guide Palm vs. PocketPC Discussion - a great comparison between Palm and PocketPC-based devices. If you are having trouble deciding which operating system is best for you, look at this page!

PDA Buyer's Guide Tips & Tricks - a list of tips and faqs explaining the ins and outs of various PDA topics. Also, look on their main page for reviews of the latest and greatest PDAs.

Brighthand.com - A great resource for the latest PDA news and reviews. Their discussion boards are great places to find out the current "word on the street" about PDAs, operating systems and software.

The-gadgeteer.com - another informative site with hardware, accessory, and software reviews.

Older Information

Links to some of the best sites we've seen:

http://ect.downstate.edu/support/palm/
This site has lots of great medical downloads and good information on devices. It is just about 6months out of date currently, but pretty good overall. Make sure to see their comparison charts (prettier and more complete than ours, but without user reviews.

www.palmgear.com
Most comprehensive download site for Palm applications.

Cnet.com and ZDNet.com
Both have user reviews of almost any handheld on the market. Do a search for the model and select user reviews.

Palm Pilot Software
This is just a short list of software that been tried out.
