Passport & Insurance
Tips:
  • Plan ahead. The sooner you need your passport, the more money you’ll spend.
  • Find out ahead of time if the country to which you are traveling requires a visa for U.S. travelers.
  • Once you get your passport, make several photocopies of the page with your picture.
    • Give a copy to a family member or friend in the U.S. who you would contact in case of an emergency. Put a copy in your luggage in a safe place separate from your actual passport.
  • Seriously consider travel insurance that includes emergency evacuation costs. Some programs require it.
    • Spending the extra money on insurance is worth having an English-speaking doctor with sterile instruments who knows how to treat that mysterious growth you’ve developed while traipsing through the parasite-infested jungles of Limpopo.
