Money
Tips:
  • Consider various denominations of traveler’s checks. In some places it may not be wise or practical to exchange large sums of money at a time.
  • Be sure to keep your receipt for your traveler’s checks in a safe place separate from the actual checks themselves. This is the only way the bank can trace your money should the checks be lost or stolen.
  • Consider taking some US currency. In some countries, US dollars are accepted just as readily as —if not more than—the local currency. $1 bills can also be useful for tipping.
  • Use credit cards when possible. They usually give better exchange rates than most banks.
  • Some ATM cards can be used abroad to obtain local currency.
