| Tips: |
- Consider various denominations of travelers checks. In some places it may not be wise or practical to exchange large sums of money at a time.
- Be sure to keep your receipt for your travelers checks in a safe place separate from the actual checks themselves. This is the only way the bank can trace your money should the checks be lost or stolen.
- Consider taking some US currency. In some countries, US dollars are accepted just as readily as if not more thanthe local currency. $1 bills can also be useful for tipping.
- Use credit cards when possible. They usually give better exchange rates than most banks.
- Some ATM cards can be used abroad to obtain local currency.
