Text Box: The purpose of the CCIG is to serve as a resource of information and provide education about patients and the medical specialists involved in the care of these critically ill (high-acuity) patients. Physicians that care for patients in the Critical Care setting include: Intensivists (adult and pediatric); Pulmonologists; Anesthesiologists; Neonatologists (Newborn ICU); Surgical Specialists (General/Trauma, Vascular, Cardiothoracic, Transplant, etc.); Neurologists (Neuro ICU); and Emergency Room Physicians.

Text Box: Critical Care Medicine/Intensive Care Medicine is a branch of medicine concerned with the provision of life support in critically ill patients. Patients requiring intensive care include those after major surgery, with severe head trauma, life-threatening acute illness, respiratory insufficiency, coma, hemodynamic insufficiency, severe fluid imbalance, or with the failure of one or more major organ system.
